STACKER HITS POWER LINE QUESTION OF COMPENSATION A claim for compensation received by the Central Waikato Electric Power Board from Mr D. Salisbury, of Puketaha, two of whose horses were electrocuted on January i when a stacker struck a li.OuO volt power main running over his property, could not be mot by the insurance company according to a letter received from the company by the board yesterday. Under the law the company was not liableMr R G. Young said the board saved money by being able to run lines over private property, and, therefore, it was a saving to the ratepayers generally. He thought the board should meet Mr Sainsbury's claim and similar claims in the future. Mr J. J. Ryburn considered tha board should be able to secure an insurance policy covering the ris_k of accidents of a similar nature. “A number of farmers think that the board is responsible for accidents when a line is run through their property, ” Mr N. Reid. "If they knew the board was not responsible we may have difficulty in securing permission in the future.” “I do not thfak the farmers would have any option,” commented Mr J. A. Sampson. Mr H. J. Beeche, the secretarytreasurer said he had been endeavouring -to get the Power Boards’ Association to take a general cover for accidents of the nature.
