RETURNS FOR MARCH IMPORTS AND EXPORTS FALL (United Pres? Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrtgnt> LONDON, April 17 The Board of Trade returns for March show that the value of imports to Britain was £77,976,37 i. compared with £84,875.448 in March, 1938, a decrease of £6,899.074. The value of exports was £41,634,577, compared with £42,155,373, a decrease of £520.796 and of re-exports £4.923,288. compared with £5,468,269, a decrease of £544.981.

The fall in exports for the first quarter compared with the same period of last year was entirely accounted for by manufactured goods, in which there was a decline of £2,313.741, offset by'an increase in food, drink and tobacco. The largest single item of the decreases was in iron, steel and manufactures thereof—£2,959,674. Next came cotton yarn and manufactures

showed a fall of £409,708, although there was an increase of £959,876 compared with 1937.

Among manufactured goods showing an increase were vehicles, including locomotives, ships and aircraft—a rise of £2,941,447, compared with the first three months of 1938.
