OBITUARY
MRS COMMISSIONER LAMB SALVATION ARMY SERVICE (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tei. Copyright) LONDON, April 16 The (Jeat-h has occurred of Mrs Commissioner Lamb, wife of Commissioner David C. Lamb, of the Salvation Army, at the age of 75. Mrs Lamb, who visited New Zealand some 14 years ago with her husband, who was director of the Salvation Army Emigration Department, was a well-known social worker. Mrs Lamb was responsible for the organisation of "the Lamb's Quarters’’ in Southend-on-Sea, a sort of consulting hospital for social ailments. This resulted in the forming of a Samaritan League and a Children's Home Shelter. As a guardian of the poor, infant life protection visitor, Police Court missioner and probation officer, Mrs Lamb had a very full life. MR JOHN PENMAN (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Tuesday The death has occurred in Auckland of Mr John Penman, former]v under-manager for the W'aipa Coal Company, Glen Massey, aged 81 years. Mr Penman was born in Scotland and came to New Zealand about 55 years ago. He was engaged in the coal mining industry on the West Coast for many years and helped in the rescue work after the explosion at Brunner about 40 years ago. He is survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters.
