Dr. S. K. Phillips has been elected president of the Auckland Society of Musicians in succession to the late Mr E. Varley Hudson.

Messrs H. O. Long, F. Walker (Auckland), L. C. Robinson (Wellington), and S. Chapman (Ongarue) are at the Hamilton Hotel.

Mr C. P. Smith has been appointed officer-in-charge of the Labour Department at Auckland in succession to Mr W. Slaughter.

Dr. M. G. Franklin, lecturer in chemistry and animal nutrition at Canterbury Agricultural College, has been appointed senior research officer in the animal health and nutrition division of the Commonwealth of Australia Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.

The national president of the New Zealand Federation of Labour, Mr A. McLagan, was re-elected at the annual conference of the federation at Wellington yesterday. He was unopposed. Mr R. Eddy was re-elected national vice-president, and Mr F. Cornwell national secretary-treasurer. There were two seats on the national executive, and Mr J. Roberts (New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Federation) and Mr F. P. Walsh (New Zealand Seamen's Union) were re-elected.
