Johnstone Shield between Wellington (holders) and Canterbury was begun. ! A crowd of about 300 thoroughly enjoyed the. afternoon s play. Canterbury, batting first on a firm wicket, made 173. The principal scorers were Misses P. Taylor 45, P. Blackler 47 and 11. Watson 18. Miss Holmes took eight wickets for 40 runs. Wellington replied with 125 for four wickets, the chief run-getter being Misses D. Hatcher 40, and E. Daniells
