MOTOR CAMP POPULAR

HAMILTON CANVAS-TOWN

VISITORS FROM FAR AND NEAR SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT Ideally situated on the western bank of the Waikato River and within easy distance of the town, the Hamilton motor camp has been during the last few days a scene of unusual activity. Hundreds of travellers have availed themselves of the facilities offering at the camp and many state that the site provides an excellent spot for breaking a long Journey. Surrounded by evergreen trees, the camp is kept continually cool while it is well sheltered from wind and rain. A large proportion of the sojourners at the camp, in spite of the Inclement weather over the week-end, have taken advantage of bathing in the river which is said to be ideal for swimming at present. Enjoying the cool shade of the willows along the banks of the river, the visitors have also spent their time with long walks along the picturesque river-path while others have gone further afield in search of beauty spots as subjects for their cameras. “There is certainly a great deal of scope in Hamilton for the amateur photographer,” remarked a visitor, speaking to a Waikato Times reporter yesterday. Mom Caravans Evident More caravans than tn previous years have been accommodated at the camp during the present vacation. Their bright colours present an imposing sight with the attractive netting of the camping ground and indications are that their popularity has not waned. With the finer weather it is probable that more cyclists will arrive at the camp and the ground will receive still greater patronage. In the opinion of several camping visitors it would be possible with little trouble to make the motor camp here one of the most up-to-date in New Zealand. Its situation on the bank of the river is one of the best in the Dominion while its proximity to the shopping area adds to its popularity among tourists. The camp is also a convenient stopping-place for travellers from north of Auckland and the south on their way to the pleasure resorts of Rotorua, Tauranga and Taupo as well as other popular holiday towns. Many are hoping to see the few improvements necessary made before long.
