BIGGEST AEROPLANE
BECRECY IN UNITED BTATEB INTENDED AS ARMY BOMBER United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. NEW YORK, June 11 Shrouded in such secrecy that only a few chosen officers of the United States Army Air Corps are permitted knowledge of its construction details, the Douglas plant is building the biggest aeroplane in the history of aviation, says the Los Angeles correspondent of the New York-Herald Tribune. Dwarfing even Pan-American Airways’ 4 0-ton Boeing Clipper, the new machine is intended as an army bomber, but a commercial version has been designed. It will not be capable of flying the Atlantic. Its weight is reported to be over 71 tons, and its speed will be over 200 miles an hour.
