Winning the toss, the visitors batted first and at noon, with two wickets down for 59 runs, rain stopped play until after 2 p.m. After an hour's play since lunch the score was 99 for four wickets and the century was hoisted after 135 minutes’ play. Bowling Changes Gallachan was brought on when the sunshine was rapidly drying the ground out. The batting continued steadily and despite frequent bowling changes the afternoon tea score was five f6r 137. Everest had been caught just before this after a very fine display. After the tea adjournment Aitken and Lissette, for the eighth wicket hatted very brightly, adding 76 runs at the rate of more than a run a minute. Aitken, another left-hander, was also impressive and gained top score. The score would probably have been greater but for a slow outfield.
