RAILWAY ACCOUNTS FIGURES FOR HOLIDAYB DECREASE OF £32,086 (Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, Thursday A working profit of £87,395 is shown in the railway accounts for the four weeks ended January 8, an abstract of which appears in the Gazette to-night. The result, which covers the greater part of the Christmas and New Year holiday period traffic, represents a decrease of £32,086, compared with the corresponding period last year. The gross receipts amounted to £677,777, or £36,235 more than last year. Expenses at £590,382 were £68,321 higher. The operating account for the North Island shows a revenue of £356.962. an increase of £12,412. The expenses were £314,933, or £36,607 higher. Net revenue at £42,029 was £24,195 less than a year ago. In the South Island, receipts were £219,627 and expenses £214,046, these amounts being £3613 and £17,657 respectively greater than the corresponding figures last year. Net revenue decreased by £14,044 to £5581. The balance of miscellaneous revenue was £39,785, an increase of £6153. Gross revenue was £lOl,lBB and gross expenditure £61,403. Revenue for the 40 weeks from -Npril 1 to January 8 amounted to £6,349,680, an increase of £747,440. Expenses, totalling £6,030,759, were £937,128 higher. Net revenue, at £318,921 decreased by £189,688.
