WOOL STORE WORKERS
EXPLANATION OF AWARD (Py Telegraph.—press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday A statement has been issued by the Department of Labour regarding the wool, grain, hide and manure store employees’ award to clear up the points raised by a meetinc at the Trades Hall. It says: ‘ The Shops and Offices Act and tiie Factories Act do not apply to workers covered by this award. The workers are referred to Section 21 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Act. 1936, and it is stated that in the award recently made the principle of the 40 hour liveday week has, in effect, been conceded and although the four hours on Saturday are at ordinary rates they may. when a new award is being 18k in tiie Conciliation Council or before the Court for this rate to be increased to the ordinary overtime rate.
