JUVENILE DELINQUENTS
CONFERENCE CONVOKED HOME OFFICE SCHOOLS REMARKABLE SUCCESS (Official Wireless) (Received Jan. 28. 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, Jan. 27 The Secretary of State for Home Affairs, Sir Samuel lloare, announces that in order to gather information about methods of treatment of juvenile delinquency he will hold a conference of people interested in these problems. One of the objects will be to discover tiie percentage of “dull" children in the ordinary schools and home office schools. Sir Samuel Hoare remarked that the home office schools were not prisons but schools and very good ones. About 8000 boys and girls are being trained in them, and when it is realised how many have been handicapped by poverty, unsatisfactory homes, and mental or physical backwardness their success was remarkable.
