OTAGO v. CANTERBURY VICTORY FOR THE FORMER HOME BATSMEN FAIL (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday Otago beat Canterbury by 89 runs in the Plunket Shield match which was concluded at Lancaster Park to-day. Canterbury, after holding a first innings lead of 41, collapsed in the second and was all out for 141 in reply to Otago's second innings -score ol’ 271. ’ At the end of yesterday’s play Otago bad scored 105 for the loss of one wicket, the not out batsmen being Uttley (74) and J. Robertson (14). Uttley started very soundly to-day, but when he had added 14 he was deceived by a well-fiighted ball from Burtt and was out leg-before. With Robertson, Chettlcburgh, after a patient start, attacked the bowling, scoring runs quickly. After the dismissal of these batsmen the side collapsed, Mulcock, the Canterbury medium-paced bowler, taking the remaining wickets. Dickinson was the only batsman to play with confidence. Mulcock took eight wickets for 61 runs, including the “ hat-trick.” Canterbury’s attempt to score runs quickly met with little success, McRae (43) and Gasson (28) being the only successful batsmen. Dunning, who strained a leg muscle while batting, bowled well, although slower , than usual, and in four successive maiden ove'rs took three wickets.
