FARMERS’ DEMANDS.
WOOL INSTRUCTION. HEAVY COST OF GOVERNMENT. REBATE ON RURAL RATES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. The New Zealand Farmers’ Union decided at a concluding sitting of the Dominion conference to urge the Government to put into operation a plan whereby the housing scheme could be’ extended for the benefit of farm labourers and farmers’ sons. It was decided to ask the Government to appoint competent officials to give instruction regarding wool production, the cost to be taken out of the wool levy fund. A remit to the effect that daylight saving of half-an-hour should be continued throughout the year was rejecte'd. The conference expressed grave concern at the increasing heavy cost of Government due to recent additions to the Civil Service and the appointment of numerous boards or committees with a paid personnel. The union resolved to urge' that the 12 i per cent rebate on rural rates, which was in operation for several years, he reinstated and increased to 25 per cent.
