He began unexpectedly early in an attempt on the record owing to favourable weather. He left Gravesend on April 25 in an attempt on the outward record but was forced down by a storm and damaged his tail wheel in taking off from Juba. AUBTRALIA TO ENGLAND. MR BROADBENT REACHES BASRA. Prince Constantin Cantacuzene, aged 27, a Rumanian airman, flying a Caudron-Renault machine with a top spepd of 237 miles an hour and a radius of 3700 miles, left Hatfield aerodrome to-day in an attempt on the records from England to Johannesburg and from England to the Cape. The airman plans to make only two stops, the first in the' South Sahara and the next in Central Africa. He will sleep in brief snatches, using an automatic pilot.

Brook landed at Broken Hill and later took off for Klsumu. Prince Cantacuzene made a forced landing at Algiers owing to mechanical trouble, but later continued.
