SQUALLY CONDITIONS
WEATHER IN WAIKATO. DAMAGE TO ROADS. 1 RIVER RISES SEVEN INCHES.
Squally weather prevailed through out the Waikato during the week-end On Saturday the conditions were dull with intermittent rain but this m not sufficient to cause the suspension of sports programmes. However, later in the evening heavy showers occurred and continued throughout the night. Yesterday was also wet and a thounderstorm occurred during the evening. Over the week-end. i. 20 inches of rain were recorded In Hamilton and further adverse weather conditions are forecast. The Waikato River has risen about seven Inches and continues to rise.
Little damage was caused to road* in the district but the HamiltonMorrlnaville Highway Is in rather a bad condition due principally to the excavation schemes. Visibility In the early hours of the morning was reported to be poor and motorists found it necessary to stop their cars owing to tha driving rain.
The conditions were unsuitable for pheasant shooting but shootlsts were successful In taking good bags of duok.
