The Daily Mail attacks the Labour Party for its attitude in opposing an allowance in the Civil List for the Duke of Windsor. In a Leading article it says: “The Duke should he treated in a way befitting the King‘s brother and his arduous service to the Empire. “Nobody except the Socialists would have dreamed of debasing the natural impulse of the country toward the late Sovereign into a political and mercenary calculation." 1 Sondrinuhnm Handed over. ‘ The political correspondent of the Daily Mail, in dismissing a suggestion that the Duke of Windsor intends to sell the Sandringham estates. says he handed them over to the King when he abdicated. The correspondent prophesies that the name of the Duke will not figure in the Civil List and that his position will not be debated in the House of Commons under that heading. He says he understands that a private arrangement is being made to give the Duke an allowance of £25,000 a year from the funds of the Royal Family. The Nice correspondent of the Mini says he has the highest authority for stating that Mrs Simpson has no intention of leaving Cannes for several months and has not made plans for her wedding.
