CONSTABLE’S TRANSFER.

FAREWELLS AT HUNTLY. TRIBUTES FROM RESIDENTS. (Special to Times). HUNTLY, Tuesday. Prior to his departure on transfer to Point Chevalier, Constable E. L. Walton, who has been in charge of the Huntly police station for some years, was the guest of honour at a farewell function at the Huntly Courthouse yesterday. The Mayor, Mr W. C. E. George, presided over a representative gathering of business men and residents. . Mr George referred to the success of Mr Walton’s term at Huntly and expressed the regret of residents at his departure. He presented Mr Walton with a pair of silver-mounted brushes and handed gifts on behalf of the. residents to Mrs Walton and Miss Walton.

A farewell function was also held on Saturday at the Huntly School of Mines when Mr J. S. Scoullar made a presentation of a fountain pen, suitably inscribed, to Mr Walton. He referred to the respect in which the departing constable was held among the mining community.
