CUP GAMES DECIDED. WIN FOR TE AWAMUTU. 11 POINTS TO 9. (Times Representative'). TE AWAMUTU, Monday. With two cups depending on the result of the game, a good deal of interest was taken in the senior Rugby match between Te Awamutu and Rovers at Albert Park, Te Awamutu, on Saturday. The trophies at stake were the Ballestite Gup and the Commercial Cup and Te Awamutu, although their team was not at full strength, gained the decision by 11 points to 9. Followng a period of desultory play during which neither side had a great deal of advantage, the' ball came to McKinlay, who gained ground with a good run. R. Jackson carried on, but Te Awamutu resisted strongly and soon had matters well in hand. Jackson made a fast run for Rovers, but the Te Awamutu forwards were too close up. Adams tried to open up the play when the ball came out from a scrum, but Bell missed his pass and Rovers went away to Te Avvamutu’s twenty-five. The defenders changed the venue, but a minute later the Rovers’ backs opened out well and the ball came out to Young, who made a brilliant dash down the line to score In the corner. The kicked missed. —Rovers 6, Te Awamutu 5. Te Awamutu soon had Rovers In difficulty again. From a line-out within a few yards of the line the ball came out to Bulford, who w’ent over for another score. Bell’s kick missed. Considering the state of the Carlsbrook ground yesterday, when It was covered with two and a half inches of snow, the ground had made a remarkable recovery this afternoon for the Ranl'urly Shield match between North Auckland and Otago. Following a fine passing rush by the Otago backs Me Skimming dribbled through for Simon to dive over. Trevathan converted. —Otago 5, North Auckland 0. Play in this spell was unimpressive, but Otago always held a territorial advantage, the visitors penetrating only twice in the session, without much effect.
