WAIKATO TOO STRONG. DEFEAT OF THAMEB VALLEY. THREE TRIES BY REID. (Special Reporter). MORRINSVILLE, Sunday. Proving too strong in both back and forward divisions, the Waikato Rugby representative's defeated Thames Valley at Morrinsville on Saturday by 30 points to 3. Play was not of a high standard, a strong wind tending to spoil the game. The teams were as follows: Thames Valley.—L. Fisher, G. Childs, F. G. Clotworthy, B. Barnes, L. Masters, H. Robinson, A. A little later, however, Taylor secured and after putting in a strong run sent on to Reid, who scored In the corner. Play was rather ragged, the high wind making conditions unfavourable for spectacular play. Griffiths was nearly over on one oocaslon, but lost possession. J. Leeson was on the ball, however, and snapped up to go over for a try. Pardington just failed with & brilliant effort. —-Waikato 12, Thames Valley 0. Thame's Valley were put on the attack by a high kick by Fishe'r and the visiting forwards following up fast had Haworth bustled, but the full-back waltzed nicely to put them off their balance and get his kick in. The visitors rallied and took a turn on the attack, a certain try being prevented by Carroll, who saved with a splendid kick. Both sets of backs were throwing the ball about at this stage', but the Thames Valley backs were not quick enough in getting rid of the ball.

Russell whipped the ball out smartly to the five-eighth from a scrum near the visitors’ twenty-five and Settle, with clever footwork, beat the opposition and triaked his way through for a good try. Pardington converted. — Waikato 22, Thames Valley 0. A little later Pardington had a chance from a penalty, but the effort was unsuccessful. Thame's Valley opened their account with a try which followed an unusual pass. Pullman was stopped with a smother tackle, but he managed to slip the ball out with a backward thrust to Clotworthy, who found an' opening and went through for a good try. Edmonds just failed to goal with a good kick.— Waikato 22, Thames Valley 3. Robinson Brilliant. Thames Valley were near to scoring again when the half, Robinson, who was playing a brilliant game, completely tricked the opposition. He passed to Clotworthy after putting in a good run, but the winger was tackled. Catley brought play back again and once again the homo' backs handled for Reid lo dash over in the corner. The kick failed. —Waikato 25. Thames Valley 3. The next try was Reid’s, his third for the day. Russell again fed his' hacks smartly, Carroll and Settle handling. Holme's missed his pass, however, but Reid came round fast to take the ball on the bounce. His pace took him the rest of the way for .a good try. Pardington goaled.—Waikato 30. Thames Valley 3.
