ARRESTED IN SYDNEY.
ALLEGED JEWEL THEFT. REMANDED IN CUSTODY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday. William Ernest Hewins, who was arrested in Sydney and subsequently charged with breaking and entering the premises of Lawrence Hedges, jeweller, of New Plymouth, on May 28, and stealing jewellery valued at £333, was brought from Sydney under escort by Detective P. Kearney, and reached New Plymouth last night. The accused appeared before Mr W. 11. Woodward, S.M., in the Police Court this morning, and on the application of Detective Kearney a remand was granted till Wednesday next. No application was made fur bail.
