MYSTERIOUS CRASH
(AR bTRIKE: A POLE. TELEPHONES DISOONNEOTID. NO TRACE 0F .\IOTORIST. Nineteen telephone subscribers hao their service disorganised when at about 5 o'clock this morning a motorcar, particulars of which are unknown, struck a pole at the corner of Knox and Victoria Streets. The impact. which must have been extremely severe. moved the pole four feet and wrecked the overhead wires. The Hamilton Fire Brigade. which was called at 6.5 a.m. to extinguish a. blaze in the heavy rubber insulation connected to the cable box, found no sign of the vehicle involved in the collision, other than a pix. of broken glass at the foot of the pole and a front bumper in the gutter. It is probable that one or more of the occupants of the car were severely injured. as there was a quantity 0! blood on the tootpath. Considerable damage was done to the telephone lines and repairs occupied all the morning. So far no acci—dent victims have been reported at hospitals in Hamilton. but the police are making investigations.
