CYCLIST KILLED.
COLLISION WITH LORRY. FATALITY AT MATAMATA. (Special to Times.) MATAMATA, Tuesday. The death occurred at about 6 o'clock last night 01 Mr Richard Henry Lockyer. or Hinuera, as the result of a collision with a motor-lorry and trailer driven lby Mr Joseph Trebes, of Frankton. Lookyer was cycling to Hinuera and Trebes was heading for Matamata. and when approaching the Matamata racecourse Tre‘bes fell; a bump. He stopped the lorry and went back to find Lockyer lying -on the side of the road with ‘his head badly battered. He took the injured man to the house or a Mrs lVValker nearby and summoned the po—lice and a doctor. Lockyer was dead before medic-:11 nid arrived. It is understood that he was riding without. a light. The deceased, who was a returned soldier, was about. 57 years oz age. He was a widower with two daughters aged 16 and 17 years. An inquest was opened to-day before the coroner, Mr A. J. Tong, and was adjourned after evidence of identification had been taken.
