PRICES IN HAMILTON. SLIGHT ADVANCE FOR APPLES, VEGETABLES REMAIN FIRM, The feature of the fruit market ft? Hamilton this week was the littl* variation that occurred for ail lines ot fruit. Apart from an advance fof some varieties of apples values remained unchanged, although smooth tomatoes and lemons were easier. A small consignment of grapes was cleared readily. The following prices are current. —• Apples: Gravensteins, 6s to 8s; 641 Rhode Oranges, 7s to 8s 6d; cooking varieties, 3s to -is 6d; tomatoes, best ! smooth, 3s to 3s 9d; crinkled, 3» to -is. Peaches in trays: Choice, 2a 3d to 2s 6d: others. Is lOd to 2s 3d; cases. 4s 6d to 5s 6d. Raspberries, lUlb. buckets, 8s 6d to 9s. American oranges, 39s 6d to 42s 6d. Bananas, ripe and turning, 18s to £l. Hothouse grapes, 9d to Is per lb. Lemons, first grade, 12s to 14s; others, 4s to 6s. Plums, Satsumas, 6s to 6s 6d; Doris, 5s to 5s 9d; others, 4s to ss; nectarines, best trays, 2s to 2s id; cases, 2a 6d to 4s 6d. Rates for vegetables during the week have been on a par with late rates and supplies have come forward freely. Cabbages are still slow of sale, but the market has improved for potatoes. Following are the prices at present ruling:—Cabbages, 2s to 3s per sack; pumpkins, 4s to 6s per cwt.; marrows. Is to 2s per doz.; carrots, 8d to 10d per dozen; parsnips, lOd to Is psr dozen; beetroot, 4d to 6d per dozen; turnips, 4d to 6d per dozen; cucumbers, 6d to Is 3d per dozen; lettuces. 2s to 4s per case; exceptional quality, to 7s; rhubarb, 2s to 2s 6d per dozen bundles; beans, Is 6d to 2s 6d per sugar bag; green peas, 3s 6d to 7s per sugar bag; potatoes, 3s to 3s 6d per sugar bag; onions, 3s 6d to 3s 9d per sugar bag; swedes, Is to 2s per sugag bag. Market for Produce. The market for produce has remained unaltered during the week, with pollard still practically unobtainable. Oats continue at the same rate as last week, but there will be a slight drop in prices when present stocks become exhausted. The current price is 8s 6d. Maize remains scarco and the position will not be relieved until shipments from Java arrive in April. The following prices rule: Wheat, 6s 6d per bushel; barley, Is 9d per bushel; bran, £8 per ton; chaff* £8 10s per ton. Dairy Produce and Eggs. With Dominion butter remaining steady on the London market there has been consequently no change in local prices, the rates current for the last fortnight still ruling. Finest continues to sell at Is 3d, second grade at is 2d and separator at is. While the egg market retains much of its buoyancy there is a slight easing tendency in view of the increasing supplies that have been coming forward. At most establishments last week’s advanced prices were still operating, but at some the price level has fallen slightly.. The price per dozen range* from Is 6d to is Bd. The prevalence of easterly weather has resulted in a diminishing of deepwater flsh supplies, and there has been a shortage at some establishments. Hapuka and flounder have been scarce during the week, but no alteration :» prices has occurred.
