NEW ANAESTHETIC.
“PAINLEBS DENTISTRY.” REFUSED OFFER OF £50,000. NEW YORK, January 23. Dr. Leroy Hartman, Professor of Dentistry at Columbia University, announced to a convention of 3000 cheering dentists here last night his formula for an anaesthetic which, he says, will make dentistry painless. Dr. Hartman announced his discovery of the liquid anaesthetic last November, but kept the formula secret till yesterday. It is: Sulphuric ether, two parts; ethyl alcohol, one part; 05 proof thymol, one and a quarter parts. Dr Hartman was offered £50,000 for the formula, but he said that’ the patents covering it would not be exercised as he wished it to be “my humble contribution to humanity.”
