THE KING’S BODYGUARD.

AN EX-BCHOOL TEACHER. HIS MAJESTY'S “SHADOW.” LONDON, January 22. An ex-school teacher will be King fidward VIII’s personal bodyguard. He Is Chief Inspector David Storier, .the Scotland Yard officer who accompanied the King on his tour of the Argentine. The new King, like his father, has always shown the greatest consideration for the man appointed to be his personal “shadow.” King George always treated Inspector Hill —who is at present in command of the Buckingham Palace police—like a personal friend. Both had served in the Navy and King George frequently chatted to Inspector Hill on naval topics. King Edward VIII., when Prince of Wales, also made his detective his personal friend. All Over the World. Inspector Storier took over the office only a few years ago after the death of Detective-inspector Burt, an officer who had fulfilled the duty for 10 years. Burt had “shadowed” the Prince all over the world. He collapsed and was sent to a nursing home. Within a few minutes the telephone bell rang. It was the Prince. Every morning afterwards until the day of his death the same call linked St. James’s Palace with the nursing home and the same voice asked, “How is Burt to-day?” At Burt’s funeral the Prince was represented by two of his equerries, Colonel The Hon. Piers Legh and Major J. R. Aird. Storier was an elementary school teacher before he joined the force some 18 years ago. King Edward VIII. has already shown his personal interest in his new detective. He has had tea with the officer’s parents in their home. 4 Superintendent Green, who was the personal detective of the late King, will continue to act in that capacity to Queen Mary.
