CHRISTMAS SEASON.
FIRST CHURCH CELEBRATIONS. The Christmas celebrations were Inaugurated at First Church with a choral service on Sunday last. The congregation was large and the Rev. S. J. Atkins -conducted the service. Mr L. Takle organist gave excellent renderings of the pastoral symphony (“Messiah”) and Hallelujah Chorus. The choir combination was particularly well balanced in the Christmas carols, spirituals and anthems- Mrs L. Takle sang the solos, “He Shall Feed His Flock” and “Ave Maria-” .On Monday night there was a large gathering of parents and Sunday School children at Whatawhata. Father Christmas presented gifts to the scholars and parents. Duets were rendered by Misses A. Hardman and I. Choat. Several scholars gave songs, recitations and pianoforte solos. A handsome rose bowl was presented to Mrs S. .T. Atkins as a, token of appreciation of her interest in the Sunday School.
Tuesday night found a large gathering of parents and scholars in First Church Hall for the presentation of glft-s by Father Christmas. Many items were contributed by the scholars.
At Te Rapa, on Wednesday night, the members of the children’s church and parents assembled in the hall, and gifts were presented by Father Christmas. The programme was contributed by the children.
