WEDDINGS

EMERSON—PORTEOUS. The marriage was solemnised at StAndrew’s Presbyterian Church, Hamilton, on the evening of November 23, between Nan Elizabeth Barbara (Bessie), only daughter of Mr and Mrs R. B. Porteous, of Hamilton, and Harold James, youngest son of Mr and Mrs J. A. Emerson, of Hamilton. The Rev. H. G. Gilbert performed the ceremony and Mr E. H. Apthorp presided at the organ.

The bride, who entered the church with her father, wore a lovely frock of Ivory ripple satin -out on classical lines and falling to form a train. The bodice was fashioned with a single cowl neckline of ’silver lame, finished with tiny covered buttons. She wore ' a beautifully embroidered veil sent from London, the gift of Mrs R. F' Ward. It fell gracefully from aJsilver lame pleated cap and she carried a sheaf of white roses, carnations, sweet peas and maidenhair fern. There were three bridesmaids, the Misses Edna Goldsworthy, Phyl Barlow and Ella Campbell (Auckland). They wore similar frocks of Lady Alice blue angelskin lace with vandyked net skirts flaring from the knees. The bodices were fashioned with tiny flared capelets and velvet ribbon sashes and ties. They wore pleated caps of blue net finished with a tiny flared frill across the back and carried Victorian posies .of lemon and pink roses and maidenhair fern. Mr L. Emerson was the best man and Messrs G. Porteous and Ted Schonau groomsmen. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Centreway, reception rooms, which were delightfully arranged with pink and blue flowers and foliage. Mrs Porteous received the guests wearing a frock of wine cire crepe and lace, and beige hat to tone. She carried a posy of cream and pink roses and maidenhair fern. The bridegroom’s mother was wearing an ensemble in black and white crepe matalasse with black hat and carried a posy of cream and pink roses. When Mr and Mrs 11. J. Emerson left by car for the Honeymoon the bride travelled in a navy tailored costume, navy and white spotted hat, and scarf to match. They will make their home In Hamilton. HALL—NELSON. The marriage was solemnised at St. George’s Church, Frankton, on December 14, between Edna May, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs H. J. Nelson, Rifle Range Road, Frankton, and | Arthur Amos, second son of the late ! Mr and Mrs A. Hall. The Rev. R. J. Boyt .performed the ceremony, and Mrs G. Bary presided at the organ. The church had been beautifully decorated by friends of the bride in shades of pink.' The bride, who entered the church with her father, wore a lovely gown of white silk striped mosette, out on very slim lines and failing into a long gracefully pointed train. The fitting bodice was designed with shirred shoulders continuing to the sleeves, which were bell-shaped, finishing below the elbow with faggoted bands of georgette- The high neckline also featured bands of faggoted georgette. She wore a lovely silk tulle veil edged wild wide silver bridal lace. It fell from a double coronet of orange blossoms to a long billowy train. She carried a sheaf of while St. Joseph lilies and maidenhair fern. The bride was attended by her two sisters, the Misses Miriam and Dorothy Nelson, who wore similar frocks of pastel pink crepe suede. The skirts fell from the natural waistline with shirred godels back and front.. The neckline was high, featuring a

full cowl and the back was buttoned from neck to waist. The sleeves were fully shirred and fell in graceful folds to the elbow. They wore large picture hats of peak pedaline straw and carried bouquets of pink petunias, carnations, roses and maidenhair fern. Miss Shirley Nelson (sister of the bride), and Miss Lorna Maisey (Ko-ro-matua),' were flower-girls and wore ankle-length frocks of pastel pink silk tulle, high waisted. The neckline was finished with a tiny frill edged with pink ribbon and the skirt featured three frills edged with pink ribbon. They wore large pink organdie hats lied under the chin with pink ribbon and carried posies of pink sweet peas. Mr Harry Hall and Mr Norman Hall were best man and groomsman. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Centreway tea rooms, where all the table decorations toned with the bridal group. A feature of the breakfast was the three-tiered cake,

which was decorated in pink and sllvver by the bride’s aunt, Mrs J. PCoulter. Mrs Nelson received her guests wearing a frock of delphinium blue crepette 'with white and navy sequins. 'Over this -she wore a threequarter coat of navy crepe with wide pleated cape sleeves. She wore a large navy Bangkok straw hat trimmed with white velvet flowers, and carried a posy of cream roses. She was assisted by Mrs A. Ward (sister of the ibridegroom), who wore blue floral georgette cut on slim lines. She wore a large white hat arid carried a posy of -sweet peas. When Mr and Mrs A. A. Hail left -by car for the honeymoon the bride was wearing a brown fitting costume, worn with a brown spotted cowl blouse and fawn panama straw hat. They will make their home' in Frankton.
