CANTATA “BETHLEHEM.”

ST. PAUL'B METHODIST CHOIR. A SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE. “ Bethlehem," a melodious cantata by Maunder, waß presented by St. Paul’s Methodist Choir last night, under the baton of Mr 11. G. Cook. The j performance was very successful. The j soloists—Mesdames Arthur and 'Couls- j ton, Miss Minnie Treloar, Master Leon-- j ard Gilbert and Messrs H. P- Duff, j Horton Arthur and B. Williams —sang, well, and the choir, despite its limited numbers, secured good balance and , tone. Mr-Cook’s work at the organ was very artistic. The cantata contained the following numbers: —Solo, “Quickly the Night is Falling,” Master Leonard Gilbert: ohorus. “Glory to God;” chorus, “A Marvel;’’ solo, "Fear Not: for, Behold,” Mr H. P. Duff; chorus, “Glory to God:" solo and chorus, “A wondrous Thing," Mr Duff; quartette, “Only a Little Village," Mesdames Collision and Arthur, Messrs Duff and Arthur; chorus and solo, “ Let us Now go Even unto Bethlehem:” chorus. “Rest wo Secure;” solo, “The Longest Journey,” Mr 11. L. Arthur; chorus. “Across the Desert we are Come;' solos, “All Hail,” Mr Arthur: "From 'Far Cathay Come T,” Mr B. Williams: “Afar in" Eastern Ind,” Mr Duff: ohorus and solo, "The Star;” chorus. “So o’er the Desert;” chorus, "O Softly, Softly;” solo and chorus. "Sleep, Little Son,” Miss Minnie Treloar: duet. "But -can it be a Gift so Small,” Messrs Duff and Arthur; chorus, “Hero we Offer;” solo and chorus, “Como to the Monger.” The second part of the programme was particularly enjoyable. It consisted of organ solos and choral numbers, as follows: —Organ solos, "At Evening” (Dudley Buck) and “Clair de Lune" (Karg-Klert): Romance in D flat (Lemare), and “Suite Gothlquc" (Boellmnn), Mr H. G. Cook: choir, “Shepherds’ Sunday Song” (Dr. Charles Wood), “Groallon’s Hymn” (Beethoven), “Nightfall in Skye” (Roberton), and "Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen” (Burleigh).
