FINAL MEETING
BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY. SEASONAL WORK REVIEWED. The final meeting of the year of the Hamilton Beautifying Sooiety was held at the residence of the president, Mr W. 11. Paul, last evening. Members present were Messrs G. Morpeth, R. Parr, E. 'Quick, T. G. Reynolds and Dr. H.'Douglas, while apologies were received from Messrs W. G. Pountncy and Dr. W. E. Harris. Reports from the society’s foremen detailing the work carried out during the past fortnight in the borough were read and discussed, the operations in most instances dealing with the ■checking of grass growth and the cutting back of hedges and trees. In referring to the proposal of planting an avenue of trees along the entire length ol the Cambrldge-Hamll-ton highway, Mr Paul stated that residents whose property adjoins the road and also citizens of Hamilton had expressed their willingness to co-operate m any scheme suggested. A treeplanting sooiety in England had been written to with the idea of gaining information. It was hoped that a meeting could be called early in the new year to which country chairmen and others interested could be invited. There was every possibility of something being done during the next planting season. In discussing the advisability of advertising Hamilton to a greater extent, the chairman explained that in nearly every town in the Dominion action had been taken by some publio body to advertise the town’s attractions further afield. Hamilton should certainly keep on a par with other towns in this matter. It was a pity that when visitors came to Hamilton no guide to the town’s scenic attractions could be given to them. Action in the matter was deferred until the new year.
