DANCE HALL TROUBLE.

DISORDERLY BEHAVIOUR. CASE AT CAMBRIDGE. (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Wednesday. At the Cambridge -Court to-day William Frederick Stennett was charged with behaving in a disorderly manner at a dance at Leamington on the evening of December 16. The -charge was the outoome of a •complaint laid by Richard Sherley Buttimore, who, In evidence, said he was at the dance and at one stage the defendant was dancing with complainant’s partner. -He objected to the conduct of defendant with complainant's partner and asked him to -cease dancing with the -girl. He refused whereupon complainant asked the girl to sit down. The defendant then struck complainant and invited him outside where defendant further struck plainantMaloolm Paterson Nicholson, said he was at the dance and saw thpre was trouble in the dance hall. -Outside the hall he interfered in an endeavour to preserve the peace. When defendant went to hit Buttimore he tried to push him away. Witness then thought defendant was going to strike him so he -got in first and knocked -him dowp. Defendant entered a plea of selfdefence. He denied that he was behaving in an objectionable manner to' Butlimore’s partner. When Buttimore came up in the dance hall he tried to push defendant away and defendant pushed Buttimore back. He could not remember whether he struck Buttimore in the dance hall.

On the charge of behaving In a disorderly manner defendant was placed on probation fo'r one year, ordered to take out a prohibition order, and to refrain from attending danoe halls during the period. On a further charge of striking complainant defendant was convicted and fined £1 with costs 275.
