SPEED ON RIVER
POWER BOAT CLUB. THRILLING SPORT WITNESSED. NOVELTY FOR HAMILTON. With exhausts roaring, frail craft' driven toy powerful outboard motors provided thrilling sport for a large gallery at the Ferry Bank this afternoon on the occasion of the opening o'f the Hamilton Power Boat Club. With little room to operate their boats considerable skill on the part of drivers was called for when cornering, the small craft appearing to leap out of the water when travelling at high speed. Collisions were narrowly averted in rounding the buoy, the smaller boat's being tossed about in a thrilling, manner when following in the wake of larger launches. Three races were scheduled on the afternoon’s programme, with two heats to each race and three laps of half-a-milo to each heat. The winners were decided on a system of points. The crowd was kept entertained during the. intervals between the races by demonstrations of aqua-planing while a demonstration by the Hamilton Life-Saving Club was giving during the afternoon.
