FULLER LIFE.
NEED OF CULTURE. SCHOOL-LEAVING AGE. HIGHER LIMIT URGED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Speaking at the Petone Memorial Technical College break-up this afternoon, the Minister of Finance, the lion. Walter Nash, said lie would like to see more extensive general education before Hie period of specialisation began. That would involve raising Hie school-leaving age, training more teachers and erecting more school buildings. All that could not be done in a day. It was not of much use raising the school age without reorganising the system, for if Hie leaving age were raised by two years they must decide what was to be taught in those two years. His own opinion was that greater lime should de devoted to general subjects, to artistic subjects, and to those things which would help young men and women to live a full, rich life and enjoy more of what the world had to offer them.
