TWO GRASS FIRES.

BRIGADE'S BUSY TASK. ALMOST SIMULTANEOUS CALLS. Within an interval of little more than 10 minutes two machines from the Hamilton Fire Brigade were called to extinguish outbreaks of fire in grass alongside railway lines early this afternoon. At 1.6 p.m. a machine was despatched to the rear of the Borough Council’s depot in Ward Street to suppress a blaze which had assumed alarming proportions in a quantity of dry grass alongside the railway line. While men were at work here another call was received at the central station at 1.17 p.m. and a second engine was sent to the railway crossing in 'Grey Street, Claudelands, where an area of cut grass was blazing furiously.

Although a comparatively small number of men was available both outbreaks were promptly suppressed.
