INDECENT LETTER.

SENT THROUGH POST. THE CHARGE AMENDED, TWO YEARS’ PROBATION. Appearing on a charge of sending i letter containing indecent language through the post under indecent Publications’ Act, Leopold Hodgins pleaded guilty before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton to-day. Defendant was represented toy Mr L. Tompkins. On the charge laid under the Post and Telegraph Act, heard recently, the information was dismissed for want of prosecution. Detective-Sergeant J. Thompson offered no evidence in view of defendant’s plea of guilty to the other charge. Detective-Sergeant Thompson explained that Hodgins, who had owned i farm at Horsham Downs, was sold up by the State Advances Department when the farm was re-sold. Mr T. H. Henderson bought it and since iheri defendant had continually bothered Mr Henderson. Ho had sent a letter containing most disgusting language through the post to "Mr Henderson., For defendant Mr Tompkins said ids client received £ls from Mr Henderson for goods left on the farm and 'thought that he had been underpaid.
