MR G. E. CLARK PASSES.
CAMBRIDGE’S "GRAND OLD MAN.^
LIFETIME IN .WAIKATO

CAMBRIDGE, Monday. The death occurred at Cambridge Parly this morning of Mr George Edward Clark, at the age of 94 years. The late Mr Clark was born in Cambridgeshire, England, In 1840 and came to New Zealand In 1864 In the ship Jumrna, landing at Auckland. After a short period in this centre he maided Miss Elizabeth Victoria Garlick. Three years later they came to Cambridge and Mr Clark took up land at pt ikeroro. He farmed. successfully for 27 years and then sold out and founded tho well-known firm of George L. Clark and Sons. , ; The late Mr Clark is the last survivor of the settlers who arrived and, founded the Cambridge district in the | 60’s, Deceased passed through all tne difficulties and vicissitudes of the early development of this district and It was through his foresight and Industry that Cambridge was able to progress as It did. During his long life in Cambridge ■ Mr Clark took a very active part In commercial, civic and social, activities of the town and district.
Pillar of Church. Mr Clark was a pillar of St. Paul’i Methodist Church and apart from his adherence he gave wonderful assistance in this capaoity. .Ho was patron and life member of the Cambridge Rowling Club, this being his one hobby apart from his daily labours in tho latter years of his life. He was also patron and supporter of many other societies in the town and district.
Mr Clark, whose wife predeceased him 23 years ago, enjoyed excellent health up until about a week ago, and passed away peacefully in his sleep. He is survived by four sons and two daughters. They are Messrs W. E. Clark (Hamilton), H. H. Clark (Hamilton), G. A. Clark (Cambridge) and A. R. Clark (Hamilton), and Mesdames A. Gane (Cambridge) and A. R. Cox (Boto-o-rangi). There are also 17 grand children and five great-grand-children.
