OBITUARY.

MR JOHN WILLYS. MOTOR-CAR MANUFACTURER. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright NEW YORK, Aug. 25. The death is announced of Air John Willys, motor-car manufacturer, formerly United Stales Ambassador to Poland. The late Mr John North Willys was born at Canandaigua, New York State, in 1873. in 1907 he bought the Indianapolis plant of a motor-car company and started the manufacture of cars, and developed it into a highly profitable concern.

In 1909 Dir Willys acquired a plant at Toledo, Ohio, and established the Willys Overland Company and also the Willys Morrow Company, of both of which he was president. By 1929 he controlled more than 30 large undertakings in the motor trade, one of which was capitalised at £15,000,000. Ills interests extended to England, for he was president of Willys-Overland Crossley, Limited, of Stockport. ■Mr Willys owned one of the most valuable collections of paintings in Ohio. He was United States Ambassador to Poland 1930-32.

MR CHARLES EDISON.

SON OF FAMOUS INVENTOR. United Tress Assn. —Elec. Tel. copyright NEW YORK, Aug. 25. The death has occurcd of Mr Charles Edison, son of the late Mr Thomas A. Edison, famous inventor. Deceased arrived on Friday night at a hotel in Springfield, Massachusetts, with two male companions. They registered under assumed names, and the purpose of lheir visit is not known. The late Mr Charles Edison had been president of Thomas A. Edison, Incorporated, since the. death of his father in 193 1. The firm comprised between 30 and 40 industrial corporations. Mr Edison was a director of Ihc Amcrican-ltussian Chamber of Commerce; of the National Emergency Council, and of tiic National Recovery Administration.
