Seldom lias 'there been a more potent team of “wisc-crackcrs east together in a picture Hum Joan- Blundell and Glenda Farrell. Their repartee and snappy dialogue, together with unusual and surprising situations, are very comical. The two girls are supported by some of the cleverest comedy players of Ihe screen, with Frank 'McHugh as the girl’s counsellor, whose steady job is dealing out drinks at Moe’s bar, with law as his avocation. Allen Jenkins, gunman bodyguard to a gambler, is the Now York friend of the girls. Guy Kibbco is Hie millionaire, while Ruth Donnelly has the role of his shrewish wife. Other important parts arc played toy Hobart -Cavanaugh, Ralph luce, Maude Eburno, George Cooper, Charles Wilson and Gary Owen. “Housewife” is the dramatic story of a wife who inspires her husband to success, only to see -him turn from her to another. In the cast are George Brent, Bette Dcvis, Ann Dvorak, John Halliday, Bulb Donnelly, llohart Gananaugh and Robert Barrat.
STATE THEATRE. As Charlie Chan, the Chinese detective, Warner Gland lias become a familiar figure to thousands or motion picture fans, and lie has always retained a grip on his admirers. That grip lias never been greater than in “Charlie Chan in Egypt.” lie is cmploved to solve the mystery of the disappearance of a gold and jewelled treasure found in Hie tomb of a priest by a French expedition, and his already (litllouil, task is complicated by mysterious murders. ‘‘BREAK OF HEART'S.” “Break of Hearts,” to be screened 10-morrow, tells a dramatic story. The cast is headed by Katharine Hepburn, whoso work is always striking, mid Charles Royer, the handsome Frenchman.
