GOODWILL MISSION.
PLANS FOR DEPARTURE. CRUISER NOT REQUIRED. AUCKLAND, Tuesday. Orders were received in Auckland yesterday for H.M.S. Diomede to leave die naval' base at Devonport this ifternoon for Wellington, where the miser was to arrive at 9.30 on Thursday morning. These instructions, however, were cancelled last night. When the proposed departure of H.M.S. Diomede was referred to the Minister of Defence, tiie Hon. J. G. Cobbe, in Wellington, yesterday, the Minister confirmed the fact that the cruiser was duo there on Thursday morning. It was learned elsewhere, however, that the members of the Japanese goodwill mission, at present in New Zealand, "have to be back in Australia early next week. At the time the inquiry was made it was still uncertain whether they would be able to reach Sydney in time by the Wanganella, which will leave Wellington on Saturday. If other means of transport failed, it was believed that the Government as a gesture of goodwill would place 11.M.5. Diomede at the disposal of the mission for the trip to Sydney.
