THE HAMILTON CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING HELD. INCREASING OF INTEREST. A successful year’s operation was reviewed in the 1 annual report of tire Hamilton. Lawn Tennis Club at the annual meeting last evening when there was a large attendance of members. • “The roll having been purged owing to the number of resignations, due to the increase of subscriptions, transfers from the district and the like, the total playing membership now totals 100, leaving ample room for approximately 50 new members, ■states the report, “and present members are asked in the interest of the club to'make an earnest endeavour to recruit in this direction. ‘For some years past the financial aspect of the club has been the source of considerable worry to the members of the committee, due in the main to the amount of money owing to debenture holders, and the enormous amount of interest accruing thereby. With the object of finalising this matter a meeting of debentureholders was held early in the recess and the position so far as the club is concerned was ably put before them by Mr Seymour on behalf of the committee, assisted by Mr McCracken, with the result that a most satisfactory agreement was reached, the debenture holders foregoing all interest accruing on the principal up to 1940, ■the position regarding the principal to be further reviewed at the expiry of live years. The expenditure of the club’s finance for the past year has been carefully safeguarded by the treasurer, Mr Sutherland, and unstinted praise is due 'to the able man-, ner in which he has disclosed the present financial position of the club. Club Competitions. “The club competitions resulted in record entries, and the various events were played off in record time, all events being finalised before the closing date, which constitutes still another record, and credit is due chiefly to Mr Jenkinson, for 'the able manner in which he assisted in getting the various matches played. The men’s singles championship was won by F. Jenkinson and the men’s doubles by Messrs Jenkinson and Livingstone; ladies’ championship -singles, Miss J. Mueller; ladies’ championship doubles, Misses J. Mueller and E. Madeley; combined championship -doubles, A. Potter and Miss J. Mueller.

Handicap Events. —Men’s -singles, M. Andrews; men’s doubles, Livingstone and Livingstone; ladies’ doubles, Misses Collier and -Sorby; ‘ combined handicap doubles, Mr and Mrs McCracken.

Waikato Banner. ‘Two teams were entered for the Waikato banner competition and the strength of th'e club can be best gauged by the fact that No. 1 team playing on 'hard courts at Matamata against Waikato East, had a comfortable win in the final. No. 2 team acquitted themselves in a very able manner, and the nomination of this team allowed the club to experiment with a number of players who would otherwise be debarred from playing in 'the banner competition. “Messrs Jenkinson, Roach, Livingstone, Andrews, Potter, Sims and Misses J. Mueller and E. Newell aro to be congratulated on being selected to represent Waikato in representative fixtures, all giving first class exhibitions. “Several Inter-club fixtures were played, and the annual match with the Royal Oak Club was thoroughly enjoyed by all. ‘A profit of £9 on the afternoon teas is shown, and Mrs McCracken is again to be congratulated on her able management of this important department. “In conclusion we would again impress on the minds of members the importance of making a special endeavour to recruit new members to the club for the coming season. The courts being in first class condition, a very favourable season is 'anticipated." The annual report and balancesheet were adopted as read. Election of Officers. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr H. D. Caro; president, Mr D. B. Livingstone; vice-presidents, •Messrs A. E. McCracken, D. Seymour; hon. secretary, Mr P. Rogers; lion, auditor, Mr A.
