JAPANESE MISSION.

ATTAINMENT OF OBJECT. AMBASSADOR GRATIFIED. CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. The Japanese Ambassador Extraordinary and plenipotentiary, Mr Katsuji Debuchi, was given a civic welcome on Saturday. "Since our arrival in New Zealand,” he said in reply, " wc have been overwhelmed with kindness and hospitality. My appreciation is diflicult to express in words. 1 can assure you of the wholehearted response your welcome will find in llie hearts of the people of Japan. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.” In welcoming Mr Debuchi and members of the party, the Mayor, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., was supported by Sir Alexander Young, representing the Government. Mr Debuchi placed a wreath at Hie Bridge of Remembrance. The party left for Timanu on Saturday and went to Mount Cook to-day. On Monday they will visit Dunedin.
