JAPANESE VISITORS
PARTY REACH TIMARU. ALPINE SCENERY ENJOYED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARU, Monday. In the opinion of Mr Debuchi, Ambassador Extraordinary, leader of the Japanese goodwill mission, who is a widely travelled man and who now is at Mount Cook, the scenery of the region easily surpasses anything he had seen. He arrived there yesterday, the weather being perfect. Obtaining their first view of Mount Cook from Pukaki, the party walked to the terminal of the face of the Mueller Glacier and then proceeded some distance up the Hooker Valley. lie was greatly impressed with the whole surroundings. Mr Debuchi expressed the opinion lhai the region had immense possibilities as a tourist resort. Japan was keen to enter into reciprocal arrangements regarding tourist traffic.
