LABOUR'S CANDIDATE

THE HAMILTON SEAT. MR C. A. BARRELL STANDING. m;r s. c. g. lye undecided. The endorsement of Mr C. A. Barren's candidature in official Labour interests for the Hamilton seat at the approaching general elections is understood to have been confirmed by the executives of the party in Wellington. It was mentioned several weeks ago that Mr Barrel! had been nominated as a possible candidate.

Mr Barrell, who has neen a resident of Hamilton for about eight years, is the manager of Messrs Booth, MacDonald and -Company. He has been closely identified with the Interests of the Douglas -Social Credit movement and has been president of the Waikato executive for several years. He has spoken -often in support of the theory underlying the “ new economics.”

When approached this morning, Mr S. C. G. Lye, of Newstead, who is named as a likely Independent candidate for Hamilton, stated that he had not yet made a decision. However, it is probable that,'lf .Mr Lye Is released in time from business interests, he will be -a contestant bringing the total number of candidates to four, Sir Alexander Young, the sitting member, being opposed by Mr H. D. Caro (Democrat), Mr Barrell (Labour), and Mr Lye (Independent).
