PAKURANGA HUNT. MEETING AT ELLERSLIE. STEEPLES TO ZANE GREY. JELLICOE TO ENGE. PROSY BOY WINS CUP. (Times Special Reporter.) AUCKLAND, Saturday. 'The weather was fine and there was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Pakuranga Hunt at Ellerslie to-day. The track was slightly holding but in fair order. The one-two system -of betting with two dividends for five or more starters was in operation. Following are the results:— GREENMOUNT HUNTERS* STEEPLECHASE. Of £100; 2J miles. 4 ZANE GREY, Mr J. Winner trained by F. Gilchrist, Eller•slle. Zane Grey broke his long run of minor placings to score the first success of his career. Fourth fancy in the betting he returned a good dividend, which was moderate under the circumstances. The favourite Ardmanning was backed down inside evens to win. Zane Grey .was early in the lead but along the back Gascille had assumed command from King Rod, Ardmanning and Parkhurst. Up the 'hill Lanner was a length clear of Parkhurst with Gascille close up and King Rod, Zane Grey and Ardmanning all handy. Over the double in front of the stands Parkhurst was just showing out from Lanner, Gascille, King Rod, Ardmanning and Zane Grey. Along the back, where King Rod lost his rider at the brush rence, Lanner and Gascille were together in front or Ardmanning, Parkhurst and Zane'Grey. Gascille ran to the front approaching the first fence on the hill but fell, while Parkhurst also came to grief at this obstacle. This left Zane Grey and Ardmanning well clear of Lanner and they came Into the straight 50 yards in front of him. Zane Grey outstayed Ardmanning in the run home and won nicely by two and a-half lengths with Lanner, the only other to finish twenty-five lengths away. Time, 5.23.

King’s Archer was a solid fancy and fully justified the public’s confidence by winning decisively at the end rrom Ruling King,' who was a close second favourite. Ruling King jumped smartly to the rront bat when they had settled down Tea Chat had headed him with Hawthorn tho closest or the others. Tea Chat and Ruling King were in the lead past the stands the first time and racing along the back they were making play from King's Archer, Ganpat, Hawthorn, Volition, Street Dancer and Winding Trail. Tea Chat rerused at the fence by the seven furlong peg and Sir Musk also baulked at this obstacle. Ruling King ami Ganpat were in charge by the five furlong peg followed bv King’s Archer. Street Dancer, Voiit'on and Winding Trail. Hawthorn fell at this fence. Ruling King, Ganpat and King’s Archer raced practically abreast to the turn where Street Dancer, Volition and Winding Trail were in that order. Principal Roy crashed heavily at the last fence and King’s Archer went on to win well by two lengths rrom Ruling King who was a dozen lengths in front or Ganpat. Tho Te Awamutu representative Salesman was a warm favourite but he failed to reaeli a place, the second fancy Gay Defence winning comfortably from an outsider in Hunting Maid whose return to win would have been in tho vicinity of a score. Mazlr got away badly and Landlubber shot to the front to lead to the top from Gay Defence, Red Flame, Armacourt, Salesman and La Femme Noire. Gay Defenre had hit the front approaching the turn and when they hart levelled up for home was In charge from Landlubber, 1 Rrri Flame, Salesman, Armacourt, j,a j Femme Noire and Valmint. In the run home nolhing hart a chance with Gay Defence, who won easily by three lengths from limiting Maid who finished List to heat Valmint by one and a-lialr lengths. Landlubber was fourth with Teddy Hoy, Snow Lap. Armacourt, Kllberls, Race Whip and Salesman in lhat order. Time, 1.35.

At the first rence up the hill Sandy Dlx and Illuminagh fell and Kahunoke was interfered with. Over the double the second’ time the order was Gascille, Bells or Bow, Ardmanning and Red Bray. Miss Pango fell at the five furlong peg and Zane Grey lost his rider at the stone wall. Ardmanning and Prosy Boy were together approaching the home turn with Gascille, Capella Abbey and Bells of Bow in that order. In a fine finish Prosy Boy narrowly beat Ardmanning by a bead with Capella Abbey eight lengths away in front of Bells of Bov? and Gascille. Time, 6.2 5.
