ALLEGED FORGERY.

CHARGE AGAINST BRADY. POLICE APPLICATION REFUSED. THE ACCUSED DISCHARGED. Untied Press Assn. —Elec. Tei. Copyright. SYDNEY, Aug. 23. In the Central Police Court, Sydney, to-day the magistrate refused an application by the police for a further remand in the case of Patrick Brady, who was charged with forgery. Brady accordingly was discharged. The police prosecutor intimated that he could not obtain the attendance of witnesses. Mr Landa, who appeared for Brady, argued that the present charge was 'merely a "holding charge,” as another one (a charge of the alleged murder of James Smith) was pending against Brady in a higher court. The magistrate said it did not seem fair to hold a charge over Brady’s head unless there was some tangible reason. The police could prosecute him again at a later stage if they so desired.
