Mr Justice Callan, who is presiding at the Supreme Court sessions in Hamilton, is spending the week-end in Rotorua. Mr K. M. Graham, Commissioner of Crown Lands at Auckland, is visiting Hamilton. Mr H. D. Caro returned this morning from Wellington, where he attended the Democrat Party Conference. Mr F. W. Cave, of Auckland, director of Messrs F. W. Cave, -Ltd., and Messrs Mason and Porter, Ltd., left by the Niagara on a business tour of Canada, England and the -Continent. Mr J. Gilliand, of Hamilton, will sail from Auckland this evening by the Mariposa on a month’s holiday visit to Suva. Mr R. C. Barnett, -chief clerk In the Auckland ofllce of the Government Life Insurance Department, has been appointed manager of the Invercargill ofllce. Mr H. J- Craig, of Pukekohe, xvas yesterday admitted by Mr Justice Smith in Auckland as a solicitor of the Supreme Court, on the .motion of Mr W. P. Baker. Mr J. W. Clarke, Auckland district manager for the Tourist Department, has left for Suva lo meet the largo party of members of the British Medical Association xvho are travelling to Australia by the Aorangi for the association’s annual conference. The Aorangi Is due at Auckland on September 1. The executive committee of the Senate of the University of New Zealand has conferred the degree of M.8.Ch.8. on Mr A. P. Cotter, of Otago University. The Rev. 11. R. Starke, formerly assistant priest-at St. George’s Church, -Frankton, and Anglican chaplain lo the Waikato Hospital, lias been appointed assistant curate at St. Mary’s, New Plymouth. Station Officer G. Russell, of tho Hamilton Fire Brigade, lias been notillcd that lie lias been successful in passing ids exaininatoin for Associate member of llie Institution of Fire Engineers of Great Britain. He was placed sixth on the overseas list.

Mr L. F. Casey, district manager of llie Greymotilh Olllce of the Government Life Insurance Department, has been appointed lo district manager in Hamilton in place of Mr j. S. Prentice, who will leave shortly to take up the position of district manager at Christchurch. Mr Casey is an ex-Otago cricket and Association football representative and takes a keen interest in sport.
