WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.

AT TE PAHU. The August meeting of the Te Pahu Women’s Institute was held in the Hall on August 8, Miss Hills presiding in the absence of Mrs Bollard, over a good attendance of members. Invitations to Te Kowhai on August 21, Nawton-Rotokauri on August 28, and Ohaupo, were read. The roll-call, " The most useful thing In the kitchen,” was well responded to. Miss Kathleen ’Garmonsway, (whose marriage is to take place shortly, was presented with the bi’ldal edition cookery book. Miss Trott, from Ohaupo, gave a very interesting demonstration of Dargeena work, for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs Andrew and Mrs Garmonsway gave elocution, which was, appreciated. The competition, spring bulbs, was won by Mrs Clark, with Miss Strong second. The sponge roll resulted: Mrs Follelt 1, -Miss Strong 2.

AT PIRONGIA. The monthly fneetlng of the Pirongia Women’s Institute was presided over by Mrs W. Bell in the absence of the -president, -Mrs Robson. There were present Mesdames -L. Godfrey, L. Marx, G. 11. Barry, G. West, Lorimer, J. Beet, Allport and Miss Robson. Final arrangements regarding the Institute’s birthday ball, to be held on August 23, were -discussed. The competitions for the points prize were won by flic following members: Sponge, cake.-with butter, Mrs Lorimer 1, Mrs L, Marx 2, .Mrs Bell ;i ; darning, -Miss Robson 1, -Mrs Bell 2, Mrs Lorimer 3. AT TE AROHA. Tlie Te Aroha Women's Institute's August meeting look the form of a Scotch night. The motto was “Good freens, lak violin strings -siiud na he screwed o’er tight.” Two competitions, shortbread, and something made from tartan, were won by Mrs Flay and Mrs Hurliman. During the evening those present enjoyed exhibitions of Highland dance steps by three daughters of members, Misses M. and B. Mackay and Miss 1. -Martin. Scotch songs were the order of the evening and the roll-call was a Scotch story. A very enjoyable evening concluded wilti tlie singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
