ELSTOW NEWS,

CONCERT AND DANCE. In spite of a wet night there was a large attendance at the concert and dance held in the Te Aroha West Hall on Monday evening. The conoert was staged by the Elstow junior branch of the Women’s Division, with the assistance of the Te Aroha and Elstow senior divisions, with a view to aiding Calf Club .funds. 'The programme was a most enjoyable one and all the items were well received. Mr G. W. Wild, organiser of the 'Calf Club, thanked those present who had helped to make the evening a great success. Items on the programme were as follows: —Pianoforte duet, Misses H. Hunt and P. Hair; Irish jig, Miss I. Martin; play, “A Rose in Bloom,” Elstow .senior division; popular songs, in three acts, junior division members; song, Te Aroha division; violin solo, Miss E. Blackford; solo, Mr A. Stewart; play, “Hope 'Never Dies,” junior division; monologue, Mrs 11. Strange; dumb sketch, junior division; pianoforte solo, Miss M. Flowerday; elocution, Miss C. Jackson; military dance, Miss I. Martin; Gipsy camp fire soene and song, junior division; “The End •of a Perfect Day," all artists in character costume. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Wild, Mrs Glover and Miss P. Blackford.

Mr W. A. Clark capably filled the intervals with humorous stories and announced the items. Supper was served and the floor was cleared for dancing, which was much enjoyed. Mrs. Glover played excellent dance music and Mr Mudgeway was M.C.

Ping-Pong. The newly-formed Elstow Pingpong Club played their first tournament of the season against Eastport Road. After some close and exciting games Eastport were victorious by 39 games to 28. Basketball. The Elstow Old iGirls met (High School Old Girls on the High School grounds on Wednesday afternoon, and after an exciting game High School scored a win by six goals to five. Miss L. Deed was referee.
