NO AMALGAMATION
BOROUGH AND HARBOUR BOARD RESOLUTION AT THAMES. THAMES, Thursday. 11 That, whereas the Thames harbour district comprises an extensive area many times greater than the 'borough of Thames, and whereas it- has under its control waterways, wharves and endowments and many interests to conserve outside Ihe borough of Thames, this board .considers that it would not be in the best interests of the whole district to hand over the ■control of its responsibilities to the Thames Borough Advisory Committee, ■a body h-olding office as an advisory ■committee only during I lie lerm of appointment of Ihe commissioner and representative of only a small portion of the board’s area.” This resolution was passed Ibis evening by six voles to three at the Thames Harbour Board’s meeting, the voters against being Messrs E. Ensor, J. 11. Ensor and C. \V. Kennedy. Prior to Ihe discussion two letters were read by the chairman, Mr Henry Lowe. One was from Mr Robert Coulter, the. board’s representative for To Aroha borough, who was unable to be present. lie protested against any action being taken, as lie was not satisfied on the evidence at present available that the basis of the proposed amalgamation would he satisfactory to tlie up-country districts. A letter was also received from Air Walter Nash, M.P., stating that it was not possible to arrange a meeting with the debenture-holders until after Ihe opening of Parliament. As early as possible in September he would convene a meeting, with a view of gelling Ihe matter settled as satisfactorily as possible to all parties.
