POWER AT NIGHT.

LOWER RATES APPROVED. TRANSFERENCE OF LOAD. HEATING IN POST OFFICE. With Hie object of encouraging the* use of power at night the Borough Council on Wednesday evening adopted a recommendation of Hie electrical engineer, Mr I. Webster, providing a special low rate for power which will be used throughout the year between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. The suggested rate will be:— Where power is used throughout the year between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. the charge per unit per month: Up to 500 units, Id gross; id net, 501 and over, id gross; id net, On condition that a two rate meter is Installed and time switch to control same, for use of which a charge of Is 6d per month will he made. Power Available. Reporting on the matter at th® Council meeting last evening Atr Webster stated: “The General Post Office, Hamilton, Is considering the Installation of electrical heating and the telegraph 1 engineer has written me, concerning alternative rates of power supply, to our present unit rate, and If a special rate for night load can be given, as they are considering alterations to the power equipment at the telephone exchange. Under the Council's recent decision concerning reductions alternative rates which would affect all commercial consumers are not desired at present, but it would he advantageous to the Council if some present day load power could be transferred to night load hours. Wc have power available during Hie night hours which even if sold at low' rales would be added revenue and would increase the load factor or average demand without adding to our peak load costs and installed plant capacity. Therefore it is recommended that this type of load be encouraged by making a special low rale for power which will he used throughout Hie year between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m."
