MEETING OF DIRECTORS. FINANCIAL POSITION DISCUSSED, j I PROGRESS OF ACTIVITIES. I The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Y.M.G.A- xvas held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms last evening, when Mr W. A- Curteis presided. In reporting on the month’s activities the general secretary, Mr C. L. Galo, stated that the most important event of the month xvas the arrival of tlie nexv physical director. Mr DDenholm, xvho had commenced his duties on August 5. Tne total membership from all sources now stood at: Gentlemen 250, iadies 187 —a total of -116. The basketball competition xvas drawing to a close, and to-night the final games xx'ould take place for Iho inter-house shields. The next txvo nights xvould bo devoted to a knockout competition. The xvinners of the shields this year had been St. Andrew's Bible Class boys, xvinners of the men’s competition; and Laxv, the xvinners of the ladies’ competition. The Pig Marketing Association team had been the xvinners ol' the B grade competition. Tho Y.M.G.A. had entered a team in I lie -Hamilton Tabic Tennis Association’s competition, but flic team could not yet claim any success in the scries of matches so far played. Tho various activities in connection xx'itli the gymnasium ’had been progressing x’ery favourably. The physical committees were making good headway and a -sub-committee bad been formed to arrange for Hu* annual display to be held on October 1,2 and 8. It had been found very difficult to find sufficient unemployed boys to ill) the positions that had been offering in the, town and the country. However, three boys bad been found positions during the month, j During the month the membership I campaign in connection with the ! Y.W.C.A. had resulted in 35 new members, the roll at present standing at 108. The YAVC.A.’s various actix'ities had continued to progress, xvliile all social functions hud hecn very successful. Financial Report. Lengthy discussion centred around the report on the financial affairs of the association from the treasurer, Mr G. 11. V. Bindon. It xvas agreed that at the close of the season accounts of each club should be finalised and surplus cash transferred from the sports account to the general account.

The report staled, that a request had been received from the swimming club that an amount of £7 10s bo kept in the sports account on its behalf for opening expenses next season. In the opinion of the report this was unnecessary and xvrong in view of the financial position of the association. Mr E. 11. Grocott indicated that affiliation fees xvere due during the'first month of the swimming season, and it xvas because of this that the request had been made. It xvas resolved by the meeting that it xvould be to the general good of the association if all moneys xvere paid into the general fund, the affiliation fees to be paid out of this particular fundI The report continued to state that the present financial position of the association was exceedingly xveak. There xvas no possibility -of the ordinary income being sufficient to meet j even current expenditure, leaving out I any reduction Ql arrears. The onlj way to effect any improvement xvas lo organise a special campaign xvith 1 the definite object of paying off, in full if possible, tho amount of tho present mortgage. : it xvas indicated by the chairman that a committee had been set up to prepare organisation for the conduct of the campaign. Mr Cato stated that the commit-lee xvould have the active support, of the community service committee of tlie Hamilton Rotary ■Club. It xx-as agreed by the meeting, after an explanation by Mr Curteis, that tlie campaign must he definitely for the purpose of reducing the association's mortgage, and not for tho reduction ol" overhead expenses-
